Whiteout Should be Whited Out Of My Memory

Action adventure movies have one thing going for them ACTION. When a movie is being sold as such a film there tends to be a lot of action or suspense, in "Whiteout" there is little of the one and almost none of the other. The premise of this movie leads one to believe that it would have a lot of suspense, the temperature alone could lead to several suspense filled scenes, to bad the director Dominic Sena relied to heavily on the films stars to carry the load instead of a better story line.

United States Marshal, Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale), is the only law enforcement assigned to a base in the frozen wasteland of Antarctica, she alone must investigate the first murder on the base, but she only has three days before the long Antarctic winter begins. Carrie was assigned to the base for almost two years and she can't wait to leave, the discovery of the body means she may have to stay for a longer period of time, she fears that the revelation of secrets long-buried under the vast endless ice, once brought to light will mean more deaths, Carrie knows that to at least one person these secrets are still worth killing for. Carrie along with her friend Dr. John Fury (Tom Skerrit) discover the body, and bring it back to the base.

Carrie also runs into a United Nations security officer, Robert Pryce (Gabriel Macht) who I'm sure is intended to become the suspect, there is unfortunately never enough information given to us to turn him into a suspect, he appears at odd times and is used as a scape goat in the plot. The discovery of a long buried plane brings to light that someone has been digging in the snow, a team of surveyors discovered the buried plane and a secret cargo that once brought to the surface means the death of the entire team. With time running out to evacuate the base before the long winter storm season, Carrie, Robert, John and another member of the base are left to fend for themselves. The murderer is soon revealed and WHAT no shocker here, the killer of course has to strike out at Carrie who has a firearm but never seems to be able to use it. The plot wouldn't be complete without the mystery of just who is behind the whole thing, I won't reveal who it is but if you have ever seen any movie before you will know long before the script will tell us, I did, in the first twenty minutes of the film.

I Give Whiteout a 1 and on my avoidance scale a 2, again this movie has little to recommend even the waste of your time driving to the theatre, waiting for it to start and the five minutes it will take you to figure out the plot and all the bad guys who are involved. Save your time and money, this movie is a bomb and won't be around long. This is a b movie made for DVD, so wait for it. The plot is simple and the acting is almost sub par, to bad, I had been waiting to see this movie for a long time, now I know why it was pushed back so many times.

Whiteout is rated R for Violence, Grisly Images, Brief Strong Language and Partial Nudity
Running time is 1 hr. 41 mins.
